SmartLab Curriculum
SmartLab learning is supported by a fully-integrated system of activity guides called Learning Launchers™ and a comprehensive ePortfolio development system. Curriculum in the SmartLab is inquiry-based and designed to support student-centered learning. Learning Launchers engage and guide students while encouraging them to explore topics of personal relevance. SmartLab curriculum is fully adaptable and modifiable to meet the unique needs of each SmartLab learning community. It’s a flexible and powerful learning system to engage learners of all abilities in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.
Learning Launchers™
Learning Launchers feature engaging, project-based activities using technology to support academic content and develop 21st century skills. With multiple challenge levels, open-ended projects, and lots of “Extend Yourself” activities, Learning Launchers meet students where they are and take them as far as they can go. And, with the SmartLab LaunchPad™ navigation system, students can easily choose Learning Launchers featuring the activities and challenge levels that are right for them. Many Learning Launchers include video tutorials, project worksheets, hyperlinks to rich internet content and other great resources. Learning Launchers support core academic standards through hands-on exploration of STEM, language arts and social studies using applied technology.
SmartLab ePortfolio System™
The SmartLab ePortfolio System™ provides a framework for project-based learning and assessment of 21st century skills. It’s a powerful toolset to help learners manage project activities, document learning and develop effective presentations. Integrated assessment rubrics provide authentic assessment of project-based learning and identify areas for improvement. The ePortfolio system helps learners create an electronically-linked portfolio of all of their SmartLab work. Through the use of sample templates, students learn how to set proper objectives, establish a project plan, deconstruct their learning process and communicate project outcomes using written, oral and advanced media. Orientation materials and tutorials guide learners through every step of this powerful learning system.
